Course Title: Making Your Differences Work
This course uses action learning scenarios, personal and group reflection, and tools such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Belbin team roles, and research on multiple intelligences, to show how;
The PLU (People Like Us) mindset is bad for business
Combining different personal work styles can produce significant creativity and innovation
The concept of allowable weaknesses can help develop a more understanding and harmonious work environment
The things that annoy us about colleagues may be their best gift to us if we learn to see them differently
Everyone can recognise their unique contribution to the workplace and be confident to contribute it more fully.
Truly effective teams harness the different personal skills and styles within the team to enable enhanced performance and a more harmonious workplace. This sounds incredibly obvious, but doing it is quite a challenge. Individual differences unrecognised and ignored can sink many a great project or team endeavour.

Testimonials
Whilst I managed Paul, I was always amazed at the level of empathy and passion he devoted to individual students who were seeking support in planning their careers. He is a truly warm person with a huge depth of knowledge who, most importantly, can help the most under-confident person to overcome the barriers they face to get the job they really want.
As my university careers advisor Paul helped me choose a path that suited my skills, personality and values. His thoughtful, empathic, person-centred approach is underpinned by his love of helping people reach their potential. I am very grateful for the guidance he gave me early on in what is a very enjoyable career.
Paul is one of the most competent, professional and friendly Careers Advisers I know. He has excellent guidance and counselling skills plus the ability to manage projects directly.
I found Paul in 2020 when I was considering my career options. He proved to be a great sounding board and source of ideas. He is highly experienced and offered me constructive and relevant advice which helped to quickly get me into a new position. I would recommend Paul to anyone who is in the job market.

Accentuating the positive in job seeking and career thinking
Regulating our intake of negative news is regarded as a healthy habit for keeping out outlook on life positive and balanced, and maintaining a more optimistic view of the future. This principle translates well to the way we think about ourselves, when there are demonstrable benefits to out enjoyment of life and to job seeking and our career prospects, of keeping in mind our skills, our achievements and the positive potential for out future.
Career Decisions: ‘Undecided’ vs ‘indecisive’ – What’s the difference?
Have you decided you need a career change? Has a Career Change been forced upon you by recent circumstances? Are you feeling undecided about what to do next and what career path you should follow? Or are you in a state of indecisiveness? For important life decisions such as committing to a potential job or learning opportunity or identifying what kind of work you might do in the future, the difference between undecidedness and indecisiveness is useful to consider.
Career Planning Strategy – are you a ‘Goal’ or a ‘River’ Person?
“If you don’t know where you’re going, you might end up somewhere else!” That old phrase has been spoken many times as a warning to the unfocussed and unprepared. But it’s a phrase that will have different resonance for you depending on how you think, in relation to your career planning strategy and to life in general. For some of us, the idea of knowing where you’re going, in as much detail as possible, is reassuring and a good way to avoid confusion and fear of an uncertain future.
